David W. Blackwell serves as the Lynn Pippenger Dean and professor of finance at the 黑料爆料鈥檚 Muma College of Business, a role he has held since July 2024. In his first year at USF, Blackwell led strategic initiatives including establishing the Center for Executive and Leadership Education, launching the School of Management, and integrating the university鈥檚 hospitality, tourism, sport, and entertainment programs into the newly formed School of Hospitality and Sport Management. He also advanced real estate education by initiating a new center and developing related academic programs.

Blackwell joined USF following an accomplished tenure at the University of Kentucky, where he served as provost and chief academic officer, dean of the Gatton College of Business and Economics, and associate dean for graduate business programs. As provost, he oversaw initiatives that strengthened the university鈥檚 enrollment growth, student retention, and graduation outcomes. During his deanship, the Gatton College secured more than $100 million in philanthropic support鈥攈ighlighted by a transformative $65 million gift that enabled construction of a new academic facility completed in 2016.

Earlier in his career, Blackwell spent 13 years as a finance faculty member at the University of Georgia, the University of Houston, and Emory University. His research contributions span corporate finance, commercial bank management, executive compensation, and securities underwriting, with publications in premier academic journals such as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Accounting and Economics, and the Journal of Accounting Research.

Blackwell also brings extensive consulting and executive鈥慹ducation experience. He previously served as a Manager and Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers and as a Director at KPMG, advising organizations on corporate governance, financial policy, securities valuation, and intellectual property valuation. His clients included Shell Oil Company, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, IBM, Kaiser Permanente, Neogen, Sumitomo, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, among others. In the mid鈥1990s, he developed and delivered financial鈥憁arkets training programs for commercial banking executives across Eastern Europe, including in Poland and Slovakia.

Committed to community and industry engagement, Blackwell serves on the board of directors for Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay. Prior to relocating to Tampa, he served on the local advisory board for Truist, on the board of directors for Commerce Lexington (Lexington Chamber of Commerce), and on the board of The Washington Campus, a Washington, D.C.鈥揵ased organization dedicated to helping business leaders and students navigate the public policy landscape.

Blackwell earned his Ph.D. in Finance in 1986 and his bachelor鈥檚 degree in economics in 1981, both from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
