The Department of Medical Engineering is pleased to welcome Dr. Neda Latifi, who joined us in Fall 2023 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Latifi directs the newly established Translational Tissue Engineering and Biofabrication (TTEB) Laboratory, where she is developing a dynamic research program focused on engineering functional, living tissues capable of growth, remodeling, and repair throughout a patient鈥檚 lifetime.

Spirou unlocking mysteries of brain development with advanced imaging and virtual reality

Through high-tech imaging and virtual reality, medical engineering professor George Spirou is creating a detailed map of the brain that can be used to better understand developmental disorders, such as autism, and provide earlier, more effective treatments for brain injuries and diseases.

Frisina seeks to discover how chemo drug may cause significant hearing loss in longtime cancer survivors

An interdisciplinary study led by Medical Engineering researchers at the 黑料爆料 and Indiana University has uncovered significant findings on the long-term effects of one of the most common forms of chemotherapy on cancer survivors.

鈥淥ur algorithm automatically identifies the head, thorax, abdomen, wings and legs from a mosquito image, then it uses specific anatomical components to identify the mosquito type 鈥 for example, the wing for Anopheles stephensi.鈥

Combatting malaria with AI: Computer Science and Engineering professor targets mosquito-borne disease in Africa

Computer Science and Engineering Professor Shriram Chellapan's project, funded by the NIH, is an international effort that will establish a new research center in Africa to advance malaria research and deploy advanced smart traps for real-time identification of mosquitoes carrying the malaria parasite.

Dr. Passaglia and his lab published two papers related to intraocular pressure: "Characterization of intraocular pressure variability in conscious rats" and "Simulation of gravity- and pump-driven perfusion techniques for measuring outflow facility of ex vivo and in vivo eyes."
