The Ancient Studies Center provides funding and enrichment opportunities for students and scholars studying the ancient Mediterranean world, including western and southern Europe, north Africa, and western and southern Asia. It promotes research from a wide variety of academic fields including ancient history, archaeology, art and architecture, epigraphy, numismatics, papyrology, philology, philosophy, and religious studies.

The Ancient Studies Center, founded in 2008 by Professor Emeritus William Murray, provides funding and enrichment opportunities for students and scholars studying the ancient Mediterranean world, including western and southern Europe, north Africa, and western and southern Asia. It promotes research from a wide variety of academic fields including ancient history, archaeology, art and architecture, epigraphy, numismatics, papyrology, philology, philosophy, and religious studies.

The ASC funds students and researchers in a range of endeavors

The ASC鈥檚 fellowship and grant application systems are being reviewed and rehauled in the 2025/26 academic year. If you are a USF student planning to carry out research in the Mediterranean or participate in a study abroad program, please contact Dr. Jesse Obert.

 

Turman Study Abroad Scholarship in Ancient Studies

Established by Michelle Turman, the Founder & CEO of Catalyst Consulting Services and Member of the USF College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Advisory Council.

Scholarship Criteria: To offer scholarships for full or part-time junior, senior or graduate students, pursuing all majors, in the College of Arts & Sciences, on the Tampa campus. This scholarship is based on merit with a preference for financial need and can be awarded for 1 semester. Preference to students in majors related to Ancient Studies.
