Observers

Overview

Privacy & Healthcare Civil Rights Compliance offers two Observer Programs for shadowing in USF Health clinics:

  • Observer Program for those considering a career in healthcare who are at least age 18 (this program is open to everyone who is at least age 18); and
  • Observer Program for Currently Enrolled Morsani College of Medicine 黑料爆料 only. 

Observer Program basic requirements:

  • The individual who wants to observe in a USF Health clinic must be at least 18 years of age;
  • The individual must work with the USF Health clinical site to designate who they wish to observe;
  • The individual must contact the USF Health clinic administrator/manager of the specialty of the provider that the individual wishes to observe;
  • The USF Health clinical administrator/manager will provide the individual with a copy of most recent policy and the necessary forms to be completed and submitted;
  • The observer must complete and submit the completed forms for processing to the USF Health clinical administrator/manager of the clinic in which they wish to observe;
  • The packet must by reviewed and approved by both the USF Health clinical administrator/manager and USF Health Medical Health Administration (MHA) who reviews the immunization records;
  • The observer is limited to forty (40) hours of clinical observation time in a USF Health clinic;
  • The approval by the clinical administrator/manager and MHA is for the USF Health clinic specified in the request;
  • The USF clinical administrator/manager or MHA cannot approve observations at TGMG clinics, Tampa General Hospital, or other affiliate locations, only USF Health clincial sites; and
  • The individual requesting to observe will receive email confirmation of the approval of their request, or if more information is needed, from either the USF Health clinical administrator and/or MHA.

Observer Program for Currently Enrolled Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM) 黑料爆料 basic requirements:

  • Under this Observer Program, the person wanting to observe must be a currently enrolled MCOM student;
  • The amount of hours that the MCOM Student Observer is permitted to observe is negotiated between the Observer, the USF Health clinical administrator/manager of the clinic in which they are observing, and the sponsoring provider (Sponsor);
  • MCOM Student Observers can only be approved for observation at USF Health clinics via this process, not TGMG, Tampa General Hospital, or other affiliate sites;
  • Every MCOM Student Observer must be assigned to a designated Sponsor (the MCOM Student is responsible for obtaining a Sponsor) and always remain in the physical presence of the Sponsor while observing;
  • The MCOM Student Observer must complete and submit the signed form (two pages) to the USF Health clinical administrator/manger of the clinic in which they are intending to observe (Please see the MCOM Student Observer Policy and Form below);
  • The MCOM Student Observer should confirm they have a current TB skin test on file with the Medical Health Administration (MHA) at mha@usf.edu.  The TB skin test must have been completed within the past 365 days (immunization records should already be on file with MHA);
  • The completed form must by reviewed and approved by both the USF Health clinical administrator/manager of the clinic in which the observation will occur and the MHA; and
  • The MCOM Student Observer and Sponsor will receive an email confirmation from either the USF Health clinical administrator/manager of the clinic in which the observation will occur and/or the MHA, of the request being approved or if more information is necessary.
