Programs of Strategic Emphasis Waiver

The Programs of Strategic Emphasis Waiver, also known as the BOGO Waiver, provides eligible students with a 50% discount on eligible tuition and select fees for approved upper-level (3000 to 4999) courses for the current term.

This waiver supports students in high-demand majors that are critical to Florida鈥檚 workforce, especially in STEM and other strategic fields.


Quick Facts:

  • No Application Needed: You do not have to apply for this waiver. USF will automatically consider you each semester.
  • 50% Tuition & Fee Discount: Covers 50% of eligible tuition and select fees, and applies to upper-level (3000 to 4999) undergraduate courses only.
  • Partial Coverage Only: The waiver may not cover your full balance as this only applies to specific major-related courses and fees.
  • Financial Aid Affects Coverage: Your existing financial aid may impact how much (or whether) the waiver is applied.
    • If your total financial aid is equal to or greater than your eligible tuition, you will not receive the waiver.
    • If your financial aid is less than your eligible tuition, the waiver will cover 50% of the remaining eligible balance.

Who Can Qualify

You may qualify for the Programs of Strategic Emphasis Waiver if you meet all of the following criteria:

  • Classified as a Florida resident for tuition purposes
  • Began college at a Florida public college or university after high school
  • Working toward your first bachelor鈥檚 degree
  • Completed 60 or more credit hours within two academic years after initial enrollment
    • Initial enrollment is defined as the first registration in a public post-secondary institution after earning a high school diploma.
    • The 60 semester credit hours must be earned/granted at a Florida public post-secondary institution.
    • Dual enrollment from high school credits earned at a Florida public post-secondary institution count towards the 60-credit requirement if the student begins initial enrollment at a Florida public post-secondary institution. 
  • Enrolled in an approved major as your primary major

If you have received equal or more financial aid than your eligible tuition, you will not receive the waiver for that term.

Important Note
If you change to a major that is not eligible in your current and future terms of enrollment, you will lose the waiver.


Notification Timeline

Waiver notifications are issued based on whether you received a tuition deferment for financial aid.

  • 黑料爆料 Without a Tuition Deferment: Second week of classes
  • 黑料爆料 With a Tuition deferment: Seventh week of classes

If you believe you qualify but did not receive notification, email
registrarwaivers@usf.edu from your USF email and include your U-Number.


Eligible Majors/Programs

黑料爆料 who have one of the majors below will be considered for the waiver. This can also apply to a secondary major, for those specific classes.

Within these majors, only these types of classes will be covered with this waiver:

  • Upper-level classes (course numbers 3000 to 4999) required for your major.
  • Classes taken in fall, spring, or summer.
  • Waiver covers up to 110% of the
    • Example: If your major needs 120 credit hours, your waiver eligibility will end once you've reached 132 credit hours.

Please note: If you change your major from one of the majors listed below, you will lose the waiver.

Waiver Coverage

The waiver applies only to:

  • Upper-level undergraduate courses (3000 to 4999)
  • Courses required for your eligible major
  • Courses taken in fall, spring, or summer
  • Up to 110% of the credits required for your degree
    • Example: If your program requires 120 credit hours, waiver eligibility ends after 132 credits.

If granted, the waiver covers 50% of eligible charges, including:

  • Tuition
  • Tuition Differential Fee
  • Student Financial Aid Fee
  • Capital Improvement Fee
  • Health Fee
  • Athletic Fee
  • Activity & Services Fee
  • Technology Fee
  • Transportation Fee
  • Facilities Fee
  • Green Energy Fee
  • Pro-rated Flat Fees (calculated as a per credit rate based on total registered hours)
  • Distance Learning Fees
  • Lab Fees, Material & Supply Fees, and Equipment Fees

Financial Aid Affects the Waiver

Your existing financial aid (such as scholarships, grants, and other waivers) is applied before the BOGO Waiver and may affect your eligibility.
  • If your total financial aid for the term is equal to or greater than your eligible tuition charges, you will not receive the waiver.
  • If your total financial aid is less than your eligible tuition charges, the waiver will cover 50% of the remaining eligible balance.

Example:
Eligible tuition and fees: $2,000
Financial aid applied: $1,200
Remaining eligible balance: $800
BOGO Waiver covers: $400

The waiver does not cover:

  • 1000 to 2999 (lower-level) undergraduate courses tuition and fees
  • Graduate level courses tuition and fees
  • Tuition and fees for any self-funded or market rate course
  • Tuition and fees covered by any other waiver
  • Excess hours surcharges
  • Repeat course surcharges
  • Late registration fees
  • Late payment fees
  • Fees for books and supplies
  • Other non-tuition related fees not explicitly stated in applicable tuition and fees list
